US tech billionaire Elon Musk on Tuesday hammered the sprawling tax cuts and spending mega-bill that President Donald Trump is trying to muscle through Congress as a “disgusting abomination.”

“I’m sorry, but I just can’t stand it anymore,” Musk posted on X, days after ending his tenure as one of the Republican’s closest advisors. “This massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill is a disgusting abomination. Shame on those who voted for it: you know you did wrong. You know it.”

The White House defended Trump’s huge tax cuts and spending mega-bill after Musk’s criticism.

“The president already knows where Elon Musk stood on this bill, it doesn’t change his opinion. This is one big, beautiful bill, and he’s sticking to it,” Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters.

  • Lord Buddha’s Relics Return After Unprecedented Pilgrimage In Vietnam

Over the course of one month, the relics drew an estimated 17.8 million devotees, marking one of the largest Buddhist veneration events in recent history. In a momentous culmination of spiritual diplomacy and shared heritage, the sacred relics of Lord Buddha have been ceremoniously returned to India following a historic and emotionally resonant pilgrimage across Vietnam. Over the course of one month, the relics drew an estimated 17.8 million devotees, marking one of the largest Buddhist veneration events in recent history.

The relics, which were sent to Vietnam by the Government of India in collaboration with the International Buddhist Confederation (IBC), embarked on a spiritually profound journey across nine major sites in Vietnam, from the southern city of Ho Chi Minh to the northern province of Quang Ninh.

    Highlights of the Pilgrimage:

Thanh Tam Monastery, Ho Chi Minh City (May 3-8): 1,877,000 devotees

Ba Den Mountain, Tay Ninh Province (May 8-12): 127,000

Quan Su Pagoda, Hanoi (May 13-17): Over 7 million, including 2 million during the central relic procession

Tam Chuc Pagoda, Ha Nam Province (May 17-19): Over 2 million

Bai Dinh Pagoda, Ninh Binh Province (May 19-21): 350,000

Phuc Son Pagoda, Bac Giang Province (May 21-25): 1.6 million

Truc Lam Yen Tu Monastery, Quang Ninh (May 25-28): 1.05 million

Chuong Pagoda, Hung Yen (May 8-30): 2.5 million

Quan Am Ngu Hanh Son Pagoda, Da Nang City (as of June 1): 1.3 million

Throughout the pilgrimage, devotees engaged in meditative sessions, chanting, Dharma teachings, and peaceful processions – transforming cities and pagodas into vibrant centers of mindfulness and unity. The pilgrimage not only showcased Vietnam’s deep Buddhist traditions but also deepened the spiritual and cultural ties between India and Vietnam.

The relics were respectfully escorted back to India following a closing ceremony attended by Vietnamese monastics, officials, and Indian delegates. The handover was marked by traditional chants, floral tributes, and shared prayers for peace, symbolizing the sacred continuity of the Buddha’s message across nations and generations.

India’s Ministry of Culture expressed gratitude for the reverence shown by the Vietnamese people and acknowledged the powerful role of spiritual diplomacy in strengthening regional ties. “The return of the relics marks the conclusion of a journey that reaffirms the universal values of compassion, peace, and fraternity shared by both our nations,” a ministry spokesperson stated.

As the relics now return to their custodians in India, they carry with them the blessings and devotion of millions – etched into the hearts of a nation that embraced the Buddha’s teachings with unparalleled fervor.

  • How An 11-Year-Old Post By Salman Khan For Preity Zinta Became The Defining Mood Of IPL 2025

With one win standing between her team and their first title, all eyes are now on the final showdown – and fans will be watching to see if “Zinta’s team won kya?” finally gets a full-throated “Yes.”

An old tweet by Salman Khan – “Zinta’s team won kya?” – has taken over the internet once again after Punjab Kings beat Mumbai Indians by five wickets to secure a place in the IPL 2025 final.

    What

    • The tweet, originally posted in 2014, has become a defining mood of the season, often resurfacing every time Preity Zinta’s team Punjab Kings, win.
    • After their latest victory, the official PBKS handle joined the fun and replied using a photo of Salman Khan, writing, “See you in the final, bhai.”
    • The Internet reacted with enthusiasm, calling the tweet a lucky charm for the team and celebrating the victory with memes and jokes.
    • A fan wrote, “That tweet is ageing better than fine wine.” Another one penned, “Every time PBKS wins, this tweet finds its way back. Epic!” A comment read, “Salman bhai ne bol diya toh jeet pakki thi.”
    • While a X user wrote, “Someone frame this tweet already,” another commented, “Zinta’s team won, bhai. Final mein milte hai!” Yet another tweet read, “Manifestation is real. Thank you, Salman.”

Sunday’s rain-delayed Qualifier 2 saw Punjab Kings chase down 204 with six balls to spare at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

This win sends them to their second IPL final, the first one since 2014, where they will face Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Both teams are looking for their maiden IPL title in what is set to be a historic clash on June 3.

Shreyas Iyer played a captain’s knock, staying unbeaten on 87 off just 41 balls, with five fours and eight sixes. His partnership with Nehal Wadhera (48) helped turn the game around, especially during overs 13 and 14, where Iyer smashed England pacer Reece Topley for three consecutive sixes.

When Preity Zinta Praised ‘Captain’ Shreyas Iyer

After the win, Preity Zinta’s old tweet about Shreyas Iyer resurfaced on social media.

She tweeted, “He is a very down-to-earth guy & an amazing captain. He is tactical, aggressive on the field and the sweetest and the most soft-spoken guy off it. We are very happy that he is leading Punjab Kings & happier we could get him in the auction as he was our first & only choice for captaincy, therefore, the whole auction revolved around him for us as a team.”

This marks the second successive IPL final for Iyer as captain, after leading Kolkata Knight Riders to victory in 2024, and Punjab’s long-awaited return to the title clash after more than a decade.

The franchise, co-owned by Preity Zinta, has never won the IPL. But the actor has remained a constant presence, cheering for the team from the stands each year.

With one win standing between her team and their first title, all eyes are now on the final showdown – and fans will be watching to see if “Zinta’s team won kya?” finally gets a full-throated “Yes.”

    In A Nutshell

Salman Khan’s decade-old tweet – “Zinta’s team won kya?” – went viral again after Punjab Kings entered the IPL 2025 final by defeating Mumbai Indians, led by Shreyas Iyer’s unbeaten 87. The nostalgic tweet has become a fan favourite and a recurring meme every time PBKS wins, with fans and the franchise celebrating it as a “lucky charm”.

  • India Ramps Up Heat On Turkey, Mumbai Civic Body Junks Key Tender

The Mumbai civic body has scrapped a key tender to buy beach safety equipment from a Turkish company as the government continues to ramp up heat on Turkey for siding with Pakistan during Operation Sindoor.

The tender was floated last September to buy six robotic water rescue vehicles to assist lifeguards at various beaches in the coastal city, including Girgaum Chowpatty, Dadar Shivaji Park, Juhu, Versova, Aksa, and Gorai.

The vendor that had won the tender would have sourced the devices from Maren Robotics, a Turkish company.

The civic body is now looking for Indian alternatives. An officer at the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation said, “BMC is exploring the possibility of having the products manufactured by India-based firms, which would be cost-effective and be a better solution considering the geopolitical sensitivities.”

Turkey’s support to Pakistan came under focus during Operation Sindoor, under which India struck at least nine terror bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir in response to the ghastly terror attack in Pahalgam. Turkey not only supported Pakistan ideologically, but also armed it with weapons that were used in the three-day conflict.

In a strong message a week later, New Delhi reminded Ankara that relations are built on the basis of sensitivities to each other’s concerns and that they must encourage Islamabad to address the problem of terrorism.

Turkey’s stand during the India-Pakistan conflict had also lowered their credibility among the Indian community, with calls of boycotting Turkish products echoing through the political and corporate corridors of the country.

The government had last month revoked the security clearance of Celebi, a Turkish firm that provided ground services at nine airports in the country, citing security reasons.

Weeks later, the civil aviation ministry gave a three-month deadline to budget carrier IndiGo to end its aircraft leasing agreement with Turkish Airlines, refusing to extend a permit for the agreement after May 31.

Online shopping platforms like Myntra and Ajio, too, removed popular Turkish brands from their platforms.

The pressure heightened as smaller traders jumped on the bandwagon to boycott Turkish goods. In Delhi’s Azadpur mandi, the largest wholesale market in Asia for fruits and vegetables, traders decided last month to stop importing apples from Turkey.

Several top Indian universities, including the IITs, Jawaharlal Nehru University, and Jamia Millia Islamia, had also suspended their Turkish exchange programs.

  • “When We Were At PM Modi’s Residence…”: Usha Vance Recalls India Visit

Usha Vance said PM Modi was very kind and generous to the kids, and the talks between PM Modi and US Vice President JD Vance were “productive.” She also spoke about seeing a puppet show in India, which included bits from Ramayana

US Second Lady Usha Vance has recalled her visit to India and her children’s experience in India and called the meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi “very special.” She said that her children put PM Modi in the grandfather category, and they love him and were hugging him when they visited his residence during their visit to India.

In a conversation at the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum in Washington, DC, on Monday (local time), Vance called the visit to India a “trip of lifetime for them” and added that it was her children’s first visit to India. She also spoke about visiting places in North India, including Taj Mahal and enjoying Indian food.

Asked about her India visit, she said, “It really was the trip of a lifetime for us. My children had never been to India, what with the pandemic and, JD’s entry into politics and all that. And so they’d grown up just knowing so much about this country, the stories. food, the relationships with grandparents and friends, but they had never actually seen it. So it was just sort of mind-blowing from their perspective. And then for me and JD, I think it just could not have been any more special.

We had the opportunity to see some of the greatest sites in North India. We’re looking forward to our next trip and trying to get to the parts of the country where my family is from as well. And it just was sort of one hit after another, right. The most incredible food, the peacocks that we got to see, everywhere we went, getting to see the Taj Mahal in the morning and appreciate it as the sun was just sort of coming up and the cool skies and blue skies over in the background.”

Vance recalled how her kids had met PM Modi in Paris, and he had given her five-year-old son a birthday present that day. She said PM Modi was very kind and generous to the kids, and the talks between PM Modi and US Vice President JD Vance were “productive.” She also spoke about seeing a puppet show in India, which included bits from Ramayana.

Usha Vance said, “Meeting the Prime Minister, that was really very special. We’d actually had a chance to meet him before. And it’s funny, my kids saw him. They were sort of sleep deprived in Paris and they saw an Indian man with a white beard and white hair, and they just put him in the grandfather category immediately. They are very into him. They just love him. And he really cemented his status by giving our five-year-old a birthday present that day. So, when we were able to visit his home, they just sort of ran up. They were hugging him. He was just incredibly kind and generous to them.”

“I think it was very productive conversation for JD and the Prime Minister, of course. But also, think it was a real opportunity for us to kind of cement that personal relationship that they have, which I think is only to the good. And as you mentioned, there was a puppet show.

That was a particular highlight with sort of puppeteering from all over the country, including from Andhra Pradesh, where my family is from. There were bits from the Ramayana. There were sort of comedic bits with animals, and it was a huge hit. My kids have been trying to recreate a home of construction paper, which is going about as well as you can imagine,” she added.

Talking about her children’s individual experiences, Usha Vance shared that her eldest son, Ewan, was particularly captivated by the temple sculptures, while her middle child, Vivek, was thrilled to see elephants, camels, and peacocks. Her daughter’s favorite moment was a ride in an auto-rickshaw.

Talking about her children’s experience in India, Vance said, “I think JD has probably told the story at some point, but when we were at the Prime Minister’s residence, our son was just so taken by everything and then taken by the entire cart of mangoes that was available for him to eat, that he announced to the Prime Minister that he thought he could maybe live there and started making his plans…And our children, they talk about it all the time actually.

They’ve been all over the place and they’ve had wonderful opportunities to see the world, but this was really special to them. Ewan, our oldest, was really taken by the sculptures in the temple that he visited. He just thought it was incredible craftsmanship and of course showed things that he was very familiar with from stories and from talking with me.”

“And then, Vivek, our middle child, was very excited to meet elephants and peacocks and a camel and just any animal that he could kind of get his hands on. And then our daughter thinks she’s sort of along for the ride. She really enjoyed her time in an auto rickshaw. That was maybe the highlight for her. The Secret Service was very generous and allowed us to kind of drive in an enclosed area for a few minutes. So we had lot of fun with that,” she added.

JD Vance and his family were on a four-day official visit to India in April. During the visit, PM Modi Modi hosted Vice President Vance and his family at his Lok Kalyan Marg residence in New Delhi.

During the visit, the children had several playful moments with the Prime Minister. From exploring the lawns to seeing the bird feeder inquisitively, the children indulged in an immersive experience at the Prime Minister’s residence.

While inside, PM Modi shared several lively moments with Ewan, Vivek, and little Mirabel. PM Modi presented the three children with peacock feathers. Mirabel Vance was seen enjoying a heartwarming moment with her father, holding the feather.

JD Vance, accompanied by Usha Vance and their children, visited the iconic Taj Mahal in Agra. They also visited Amber Fort in Jaipur and Swaminarayan Akshardham Temple in New Delhi and the Central Cottage Industries Emporium.
